Will the Minister provide an update on the Cardiff and Newport active travel corridor plans?

Answered by Deputy Minister for Climate Change | Answered on 05/05/2023

The Transport for Wales Unit dedicated to accelerating implementation of the Burns recommendations are pressing ahead with the development of a segregated, continuous active travel route between the city centres of Cardiff and Newport. This would be accompanied by a dedicated bus route.

A public consultation took place in March 2022, received over 1700 responses and was supportive of the proposals.

The next step is for us and the Local Authorities to agree a preferred solution, then investigate costs and funding opportunities before making an investment decision.
