How much funding has been specifically allocated by the Welsh Government to fix potholes in Wales in each of the last 5 years?

The Welsh Government does not record the specific information you have requested in relation to potholes only on the strategic road network.

We address potholes as part of our category defect process and this can include other repair costs with various assets on the strategic road network across Wales – for example, safety barrier repairs, drainage issues, structural problems at bridges.

Under the category one defect budget heading, we spent the following in:

2017-18: £9,937,300

2018-19: £9,819,073

2019-20: £11,507,272

2020-21: £8,644,879

2021-22: £9,429,050

Local authority roads repairs are funded through revenue and capital budgets. In addition to the significantly improved revenue settlement for local authorities in 2022-23 and 2023-24 with increases of 9.4% and 7.9% respectively, we have provided specific additional revenue and capital funding of more than £100m since 2020-21 in support of local authorities’ highways.
