Will the Minister outline their plans to shape the food and drink environment towards sustainable and healthier options, as expressed in the Healthy Weight: Health Wales strategy?
Through Healthy Weight: Healthy Wales we are taking forward a number of approaches which will aim to support healthier options. For example, a consultation on the Healthy Food Environment closed on the first of September, and I published a summary of consultation responses in January this year. Healthy Food Environment –Summary of Responses. I will be announcing the Welsh Government position and next steps pre-summer across the range of measures which the consultation focussed upon.
To give you some further examples of the breadth of other work taking place; we are also working through our Food Innovation Centres to work with Welsh businesses to reformulate products, we have committed to review the school nutritional standards and further announcements will be made in due course, we have invested in school programmes such as Big Bocs Bwyd, we have invested in Food Partnerships to help support community action and worked with Transport for Wales to implement a revised advertising policy. We are also supporting local action and we have developed local systems teams working within Local Health Boards. These teams are working with partners and are identifying actions to take forward across planning, food systems and advertising.
