What assessment has the Minister made regarding the expert independent advice of the UK National Screening Committee which recommends bowel cancer screening between the ages of 50 and 74?

Answered by Minister for Health and Social Services | Answered on 31/03/2023

The UK National Screening Committee (UK NSC) is an independent, scientific advisory committee which reports to all four UK Chief Medical Officers and on which there is Welsh representation. It is recognised globally for its expertise and academic rigour. The committee requires a very high level of evidence, and its recommendations are based on a comprehensive strategy of research evaluation, modelling, horizon scanning and public consultation. It is, therefore, Welsh Government policy to follow the advice of the UK NSC. As with other UK scientific committees, the Welsh Government does not undermine the expertise or advice of the committee by disregarding or duplicating its work.
