What assessment has the Minister made of the suitability of Kajima as the building company commissioned to deliver the new Velindre Hospital following the Tokyo High Court ruling on 2 March 2023 that upheld a lower court's guilty ruling for Taisei Corp and Kajima Corp for bid-rigging?
This appointment has been through a rigorous public procurement (June 2021 to July 2022) run through Velindre University NHS Trust, with Acorn selected as the successful participant to deliver the new Velindre Cancer Centre. Kajima Partnerships is part of the Acorn team (along with Sacyr and Aberdeen) leading the management, co-ordination and investment into the new Velindre Cancer Centre MIM project. Kajima Partnerships is part of Kajima Europe, the European arm of Kajima Corporation. The construction contractor is part of Sacyr who are an experienced hospital contractor.
I have been assured by Velindre University NHS Trust that they have and will continue to follow procurement guidance as they progress from Successful Participant Stage to Financial Close of the scheme.
