What steps is the Minister taking to increase the amount of social housing in Aberconwy?
Delivering social housing is a key priority for this Government and it is why we have set out the challenging commitment to deliver 20,000 homes for rent within the social sector during this government term. I have allocated record levels of funding to the Social Housing Grant to achieve this: £250m in 2021-22, (doubling the budget from 2020-21), £300m in this current year (2022-23), with indicative draft budget allocations of £330m in 2023-24 and £325m in 2024-25.
In 2021-22 we invested £8.6m of this funding to support schemes in Conwy, and this financial year we have allocated more than £11m to Conwy.
As well as funding newbuild homes, I am also supporting a range of initiatives that will deliver more homes towards the 20,000 homes target as quickly as possible, such as acquiring properties, remodelling existing accommodation, converting buildings into good quality accommodation, and the innovative use of modern methods of construction and modular accommodation on ‘meanwhile’ sites.
In 2022-23 I allocated £89m to the Transitional Accommodation Capital Programme to bring more than 1,300 homes into use and £30m for Leasing Scheme Wales to improve access to longer term affordable housing in the private rental sector.
