What is the Welsh Government doing to develop its existing research and data in relation to net zero skills?

I launched the Net Zero Skills Action Plan on 28 February 2023. It was supported by a strong foundation of research and evidence. This included research commissioned from the Wales Centre for Public Policy (WCPP), which reported on the current net zero skills position across Wales and the future skills needs and gaps to meet the changing demands on the workforce.

The next step is to undertake a public consultation to further our research and gain a more detailed understanding of the skills position for each emission sector in Wales and what skills are needed in the short, medium and long term. The outcome of the sector-specific skills consultation will provide valuable information to inform the development of a skills roadmap for each emission sector.

We will also continue to work closely with our Regional Skills Partnerships to enhance our Labour Market Intelligence and the latest Employer Skills Survey, which is currently underway, will also capture information on skills gaps related to wanting to be more sustainable or carbon neutral.
