What steps is the Minister taking to promote decarbonisation in buildings owned by Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board?

Answered by Minister for Health and Social Services | Answered on 17/03/2023

All NHS organisations, including Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board (BCU) must submit annual decarbonisation plans to Welsh Government as part of reporting requirements set out in in the NHS Wales Decarbonisation Strategic Delivery Plan.

In the Plan, a range of measures are set out including the incorporation of decarbonisation as part of capital schemes across the NHS Wales estate. In 2021- 22 capital funding of £1.43m was targeted at specific decarbonisation measures across the Health Board’s estate. Additional capital funding has also been identified in 2023-24 and 2024-25 to support decarbonisation and infrastructure projects. Improvements to the fabric and condition of buildings are often essential to enable the necessary decarbonisation measures.

Organisations across Wales including Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board are also working with the Welsh Government Energy Service to look at suitable decarbonisation projects, supported via separate funding outside of the NHS capital programme.
