What discussions has the Minister had with the Minister for Health regarding plans to achieve net zero in the Welsh NHS?

I met the Minister for Health and Social Services on 30 November 2022 to discuss the health and social care sector’s plans to achieve net zero. We recognised a range of opportunities for cross-government collaboration and agreed to continue our engagement.

There is a significant challenge to decarbonise and adapt the sector, but NHS Wales and social care is committed to the ambition for the public sector in Wales to be collectively net zero by 2030.

In March 2021, the NHS Wales Decarbonisation Strategic Delivery Plan was published and in July 2022, Decarbonising Social Care was published, together with the Greener Primary Care Framework. Work is also continuing towards the health-related adaptation actions within A Climate Conscious Wales.

Part of my role is to lead a Team Wales approach, where all Cabinet colleagues, local government, individuals, businesses and communities step up and play their part on our path to net zero.
