Will the Welsh Government commit to paying for the cladding remediation of privately owned apartment blocks in Wales, and then pursue the developers to recover costs?
My position has always been that the industry should step-up to their responsibilities in matters of fire safety - developers should put right fire safety faults at their own cost or risk their professional reputation.
We are pleased a number of large developers have set aside funds to replace cladding and address other fire safety work on properties in Wales.
A number of buildings have been identified where the developer is unknown or ceased trading. These buildings are defined as orphaned buildings.
I have agreed to an initial cohort of orphan buildings to be remediated to test our approach. The work to develop this has started and a further announcement on the details will be made shortly.
We are working with developers and our contractors PRP to minimise the risks of disputes being raised and will work directly with our consultants to address any issues raised following surveys.
