What assessment has the Minister made of awareness amongst young people of the support available for those struggling with their mental health or wellbeing?

Answered by Deputy Minister for Mental Health and Wellbeing | Answered on 10/03/2023

We are taking a whole system approach to improve emotional mental health and well-being and to improve awareness of the support that is available. This includes our work in schools and the development of the Youth Mental Health Toolkit. The toolkit is hosted on HWB so it is easily accessible and aims to help young people to find appropriate support.

The Welsh Government continuously promotes the support available for people of all age mental health support in Wales through our Help us Help You campaign and via 111.

Our most recent phase of Help Us Help You campaign activity reached 98.55% of young people between the ages 15-34.  Some specific activity on mental health support has included digital advertising and working with social influencers, such as Jess Davies. Jess’ video has been viewed 332,933 times across Instagram, YouTube and TikTok and additional coverage was secured through WalesOnline which can be viewed here.

Improving awareness of the resources and support requires a multi-agency approach and officials meet regularly with partners to do this.
