Following paragraphs 3.4.1 and 3.4.3 of the March 2022 Audit of the Welsh Government for British Sign Language Charter, will the Minister review what consultation was undertaken with the deaf community regarding British Sign Language interpretation being included within the Wales Interpretation and Translation Service remit?

Answered by Minister for Social Justice | Answered on 03/03/2023

The Wales Interpretation and Translation Service (WITS) supports some public sector organisations in Wales to meet their obligations under the Equality and Human Rights Act in respect of the needs of the D/deaf community. WITS is provided as a commercial service by a team at Cardiff County Council. Any changes or reviewing to the existing arrangements would be a matter for Cardiff County Council, rather than the Welsh Government.
