Will the Minister confirm how the Welsh Government undertakes the post-major event impact assessments on traffic congestion and overcrowding on public transport?

Answered by Deputy Minister for Climate Change | Answered on 17/02/2023

Welsh Government transport interests are represented in the Stadium Event Liaison Group (SELG) meetings with respect to the strategic road network. These regular meetings, which are chaired by the Principality Stadium, involve interested parties such as the Stadium themselves, Cardiff County Council, TfW, GWR and emergency services. They discuss planning for upcoming major events, operations during these events and observations and lessons learnt once events have taken place. By meeting as a group information can shared and a co-ordinated approach can be taken to manage any issues encountered and implement a change of approach informed by lessons learnt.

For other large scale events such as the Royal Welsh Show, Annual Eisteddfod,  there are Safety Advisory Groups run by the relevant local authority which the Welsh Government has a representative on and there would be meetings to discuss matters pre and post event.
