To what extent are the UK Procurement Bill and the Social Partnership and Public Procurement (Wales) Bill going to introduce different procurement regimes in England and Wales?

Answered by Deputy Minister for Social Partnership | Answered on 07/02/2023

Whilst these are separate pieces of legislation, together they will make up a new procurement regime for Wales. The UK Procurement Bill aims to introduce new rules around how procurement is carried out, and the Social Partnership and Public Procurement (Wales) Bill is about ensuring that the Welsh public sector procures consistently in a socially responsible way. In other words, it aims to promote improved well-being outcomes from public contracts. Both Bills will increase transparency.

The UK Procurement Bill will cover Welsh contracting authorities, but the Social Partnership and Public Procurement (Wales) Bill will not cover authorities outside of Wales.
