Has there been any limit set by or earmarked by the Welsh Government as to how much the cost of increasing the size of the Senedd or Senedd reform more generally can cost the Welsh taxpayer?

Answered by Counsel General and Minister for the Constitution | Answered on 03/02/2023

The Special Purpose Committee’s report and recommendations were endorsed by the Senedd on 8 June and these form the basis of legislation, to be drafted and introduced by the Welsh Government.

The Welsh Government will develop and publish detailed cost estimates to accompany the legislation, in accordance with the Senedd’s Standing Orders, for scrutiny by Members during the Bill’s passage.

The Welsh Government, in cooperation with Plaid Cymru, has committed to bringing forward legislation to reform the Senedd, within 12 to 18 months of the publication of the final report of the Special Purpose Committee. This work is being carried out in collaboration with Adam Price MS, the Plaid Cymru designated member, as part of the Co-operation Agreement between the Welsh Government and Plaid Cymru.
