Will the Minister provide a breakdown of where the £2.2 million allocated for Senedd reform in 2023/24 will be spent?

Answered by Counsel General and Minister for the Constitution | Answered on 30/01/2023

The Senedd provided a clear mandate for the government to deliver the recommendations of the Special Purpose Committee in time for the next Senedd election in 2026. Preparation and delivery of legislation requires budgetary expenditure, and the 2023-2024 budget includes an allocation of £2.2 million (which includes the £0.8m referenced in WQ87208 which was added in light of the scope and timing set out in the Committee’s report) for the project.

The Welsh Government, in cooperation with Plaid Cymru, has committed to bringing forward legislation to reform the Senedd, within 12 to 18 months of the publication of the final report of the Special Purpose Committee. This work is being carried out in collaboration with Adam Price MS, the Plaid Cymru designated member, as part of the Co-operation Agreement between the Welsh Government and Plaid Cymru.
