Will the Minister provide an update on the prevalence of modern slavery in Wales, and what is being done to tackle it?

Answered by Minister for Social Justice | Answered on 24/01/2023

The Home Office publishes data quarterly on referrals to the National Referral Mechanism. The most recent publication was in November and showed there were 127 referrals of potential victims of modern slavery to Welsh police forces between July and September 2022.

Modern slavery is a reserved matter, but we are working collaboratively and constructively with a range of partners, including those on the Wales Anti-Slavery Leadership Group, to tackle modern slavery and support survivors.  Key elements of our approach were set out in my Written Statement published on 3 November 2022.
