Will the Minister state how many historic buildings in Wales are under threat by flooding?
I cannot give a definitive answer to the question with any certainty. However, data gathered for The Historic Environment and Climate Change in Wales Sector Adaptation Plan published in February 2020 shows that at that time 3,655 listed buildings in Wales – some 12% of all listed buildings – were located within Flood Zone 3. Flood Zone 3 is defined by Natural Resources Wales as the extent of a flood from rivers with a 1% (1 in 100) chance or greater of happening in any given year, or the extent of a flood from the sea with a 0.5% (1 in 200) chance or greater of happening in any given year. This figure is for all listed buildings and includes a high number of listed bridges and other structures likely to experience direct impact from flooding.
