What action is the Welsh Government taking to improve the safety of using active travel for women and other minority groups?
Women make up 51.1% of the population in Wales and are not a minority group. The creation of safe, convenient and attractive routes for active travel users is at the heart of our efforts to increase levels of walking and cycling for everyday journeys.
Our Active Travel Act Guidance sets out how these should be planned and designed, following the principle that they should generally be suitable to be used by an unaccompanied child of secondary school age. We are providing funding for national standards cycle training to local authorities each year and encourage the increased offer of adult cycle training, including inclusive cycle training.
Our Active Travel Board has also set up an inclusive active travel sub-group, which advises on matters that are important to make walking and cycling more accessible and attractive for currently underrepresented groups.
