What discussions has the Minister had with the UK Government and policing bodies to improve the safety of e-scooters?

Answered by Deputy Minister for Climate Change | Answered on 14/12/2022

The regulation of e-scooters is a reserved matter for the UK Government, although my officials are liaising with the UK Department of Transport and the Parliamentary Advisory Council for Transport Safety on this issue.

As part of the Queen’s Speech earlier this year, the UK Government announced legislation on e-scooters. This was to be introduced in the new parliamentary session as part of a Transport Bill which has since been paused.

We cannot afford to wait for the UK Government to act so we are supporting a Road Safety Wales led campaign on e-scooter safety. This includes a social media toolkit for local authorities, providing practical advice to retailers and working with the police and GoSafe to tackle the illegal use of e-scooters.
