What conclusions has the Minister drawn from the decline in organised religion recognised by the 2021 Census?

We are currently considering the results of the 2021 Census.  However, the Welsh Government strongly supports the right for people in Wales to freely express their faith or belief in many different ways.

To adhere to a faith is a matter of personal conscience, in which Government should not interfere. However, as faith can shape one’s interaction with Government policy we have mechanisms to ensure that the voice of those with faith can be heard in public discourse.

I meet with faith leaders at least twice a year through the Faith Communities Forum.  The Forum reflects the Welsh Government’s commitment to working with faith groups, at all levels to promote understanding and foster community cohesion.

We are conducting a review of the terms of reference of the Faith Communities Forum, to consider its future membership and engagement.

It is important we are all able to express our views, to listen with respect to the views of others and improve how we can work together.
