Will the Minister confirm the cost of implementing the 50mph speed cameras across the five locations in Wales?

Answered by Deputy Minister for Climate Change | Answered on 06/12/2022

The cost to implement the speed cameras to enforce the 50mph for air quality purposes across the five locations in Wales (M4 Newport, M4 Port Talbot, A470 Pontypridd, A483 Wrexham and A494 Deeside) was £3.34 million pounds.

We know enforcement of the speed limit is likely to be the quickest and most effective way to reduce NO2 levels. Welsh Government have published data showing the efficacy of the 50mph limits in reducing NO2 levels at https://gov.wales/sites/default/files/publications/2022-09/annual-data-on-no2-concentrations-for-the-motorway-and-trunk-road-2020-to-2021.pdf
