What funding will the Welsh Government provide for the rollout of CCTV systems in abattoirs across Wales?

Answered by Minister for Rural Affairs and North Wales, and Trefnydd | Answered on 02/12/2022

Funding to support small- and medium-sized slaughterhouses to install and upgrade CCTV systems was available through the Welsh Government’s Food Business Investment Scheme.

A 12 week public consultation on proposals to require CCTV in all slaughterhouses in areas where live animals are present was launched on 14 November: Closed-circuit television (CCTV) in slaughterhouses | GOV.WALES

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) monitors and enforces compliance with animal welfare legislation in slaughterhouses. Under our proposals, this would include the requirements for slaughterhouses to install CCTV.

A Regulatory Impact Assessment (RIA) has been published with the consultation. The RIA assesses the financial and practical impacts of our proposals on affected parties including industry and the public sector.
