What is the Welsh Government doing to encourage dog walkers to clear up after their pets?

Answered by Minister for Climate Change | Answered on 25/11/2022

Through our grant funding of Keep Wales Tidy’s Caru Cymru programme we have developed a number of initiatives aimed at encouraging dog owners to deal with dog waste responsibly. This includes a number of national awareness raising and behaviour change campaigns such as ‘Make Memories, Not Mess’ and ‘Leave Only Pawprints’.  The learning from these national campaigns are being used inform our draft Litter and Fly-tipping Prevention Plan for Wales.

We have also provided Local Authorities with a number of enforcement tools to help address the issue. These include the ability to issue financial penalties and establish Public Space Protection Orders.
