What work is the Welsh Government conducting to identify problems in the child and adolescent mental health services system to improve the service for young people in need of mental health support?

The Welsh Government has commissioned the NHS Delivery Unit to undertake a review of CAMHS services across Wales. The review will help us  understand the variance in performance and make recommendations for improvements.  The report and recommendations are being finalised and I will expect officials and the NHS to prioritise the work to take forward the recommendations.

I have also prioritised investment in CAMHS services and increased the scrutiny around performance and improvement. All health boards have agreed trajectories for improvement which are monitored against  progress on a monthly basis.

Not all children and young people will need specialist CAMHS support which is why we are also delivering earlier intervention and support through our Whole School Approach to emotional health and wellbeing and our NEST/Nyth framework.
