How is the Welsh Government supporting our young people transitioning between child and adolescent mental health services to adult mental health services?

Answered by Deputy Minister for Mental Health and Wellbeing | Answered on 25/11/2022

Improving transitions from children and young people’s mental health services to adult services continues to be a priority for the Welsh Government. In February 2022 we issued new guidance for health boards to ensure that young people and their carers have a better experience of transition between children and adult services by improving the way care is planned and carried out.

We also recently commissioned work with young people with lived experience of transition between children and adult mental health services in-order to understand and establish what support they would like to see. The results of this  work, together with  a range of other information, demonstrate that whilst we have clear policy and have issued guidance, there is more work to do to support Local Health Boards on implementation.   We are currently working with the NHS Collaborative and health boards to identify where further improvements can be made.
