Will the Minister confirm how he will use the Qatar World Cup functions to attract more foreign direct investment to Wales?
The Ministerial visit programmes to Qatar and the USA contain meetings with potential and existing investors and investment authorities. The wider programme of events being undertaken by our overseas offices across the world include a number of business-focussed events, which showcase the Welsh investment offer.
The Cymru | Wales Dome on the South Bank in London will host a four-day programme to promote Wales and areas of Welsh excellence including food and drink, sport, art, and business. One of the events will showcase “The rise of Welsh FinTech”, celebrating the Welsh FinTech sector and the collaborative business support network present in Wales that is delivering success on the world stage. This event aims to highlight the key players in the thriving FinTech ecosystem, explore how Wales has become a premier location for FinTech companies to scale, and attract an international audience of key industry stakeholders and investors.
The Qatar World Cup is a unique opportunity to showcase our nation on the global stage. From a foreign direct investment (FDI) perspective, we are promoting Wales as a business destination in a number of markets, covering the USA, England and Qatar, with our FDI marketing being part of a much wider integrated Cymru | Wales nation campaign. Our audience in the different markets are senior leaders, decision makers and managers within key sectors. In the USA, a media partnership will showcase Wales for investment, highlighting key strengths, timed to coincide with Wales’ opening match, further supported by digital marketing. In England and Qatar, our messages will be seen in key media titles, supported by digital marketing, there will also be a business panel event in London, utilising the Cymru | Wales Dome.
