Will the Minister provide the reasons for the further delays to the South Wales Metro project?
Answered by Deputy Minister for Climate Change | Answered on 21/11/2022
The delays to the overall programme of work on the transformation of the Core Valley Lines is due to the impact of the pandemic, global material supply constraints and the insecurity due to the Ukraine conflict.
Transport for Wales continue to make progress with the project, with the introduction of brand new trains on the Rhymney Valley Line planned for January 2023 and the majority of work to transform the Core Valley Lines scheduled for completion in 2024.
I will provide further information to Members about the Core Valley Lines transformation programme, including costs, in due course.
