What discussions has the Minister had with Emergency Medical Retrieval and Transfer Service Cymru and the Welsh Air Ambulance Trust on their decision to move the Wales Air Ambulance base from Welshpool?

Answered by Minister for Health and Social Services | Answered on 22/11/2022

I visited the Dafen HQ of the Wales Air Ambulance Charity on 5 August 2022.

Decisions regarding the configuration and operation of its bases is a matter for the Charity and its Board of Trustees. However, my officials will be discussing the proposals with the Chief Ambulance Services Commissioner later this month to seek assurance that the EMRTS proposals align to our strategic policy expectations, before providing me with further briefing.

The detailed draft service development proposal is available on the EASC website at the following link:-

Further pre-engagement work is required before engagement proper can commence. A decision on any move will not be made until 2023 following a period of public engagement.

I have attached a copy of the data pack I received about the Wales Air Ambulance Service Development proposal. Please note elements of the pack have been redacted given they contain potentially sensitive commercial data.
