What discussions has the Minister had with the UK Government regarding alternatives to fixed broadband in Wales?

Answered by Minister for Economy | Answered on 21/11/2022

Officials meet regularly with their counterparts within the UK Government to discuss the deployment of broadband in Wales. This includes discussion of the range of technologies available, including alternatives to fixed broadband. Addressing digital infrastructure coverage gaps in Wales is a matter for the UK Government to tackle. Where we have intervened through initiatives such as Superfast Cymru, Access Broadband Cymru and the Local Broadband Fund, we have maintained a technology neutral stance. Suppliers have used our funding to deploy a broad range of technologies from fixed technologies to alternatives to fixed technologies, including 4G, fixed wireless access and satellite.
