What is the Welsh Government doing to establish and improve sporting facilities in Brecon and Radnorshire?

Answered by Deputy Minister for Arts and Sport, and Chief Whip | Answered on 11/11/2022

The Welsh Government has committed £24m in capital funding over the next three years (2022-25) to Sport Wales to develop facilities across Wales. Investing in sporting facilities, both elite and grassroots, is a commitment in our Programme for Government, highlighting the important link between increasing participation and the health and wellbeing of our nation.

In 2021-22, Sport Wales supported 37 projects across Powys with a total investment of £113,508 through the Be Active Wales Fund. This is in addition to funding of £161,398 for capital projects such as the new Pump Track near Talybont-on-Usk and the resurfacing of tennis courts in Builth Wells.

The Welsh Government also invests in sporting facilities through the Sustainable Communities for Learning Programme. The aims of the Programme are to provide efficient and effective educational infrastructure, and to optimise the use of infrastructure and resources to deliver public services for our communities. The first wave of investment ran between 2014 and 2019 and saw £43m invested in Brecon and Radnorshire, including the four-court sports hall, activity studio, running track, sports fields and a 3G pitch at the new Brecon High School.
