What information does the Welsh Government hold on visitor numbers for Dolforwyn Castle and Montgomery Castle Cadw sites in Montgomeryshire?
Answered by Deputy Minister for Arts and Sport, and Chief Whip | Answered on 16/11/2022
Cadw does not currently record visitor numbers at these sites, which are unstaffed and free to enter.
A previous project to monitor footfall to unstaffed sites ended in 2014. It used automatic visitor counters to give an estimate of the number of people going to each site. The data for Dolforwyn Castle and Montgomery Castle showed the following numbers of visitors:
Dolforwyn Castle
2009 – 5,441
2010 – 4,253
2011 – 6,116
2012 – 5,347
2013 – 5,040
2014 – 5,610
Montgomery Castle
2009 – 31,820
2010 – 26,400
2011 – 28,301
2012 – 26,118
2013 – 26,311
2014 – 29,018
