Will the Minister provide details of how many efficiency savings the Government have made over the last five years?

Answered by Minister for Finance and Local Government | Answered on 18/11/2022

The Welsh Government prioritises efficiency and value for money in all of our policy interventions and delivery.  It is an integral part of our financial processes and is a key consideration for each Minister, in managing their own portfolios.

Over recent years and for the foreseeable future pressure on budgets has intensified as a result of the pandemic and higher inflation.  This has reinforced our focus on value for money.

Value for money is rigorously enforced by strict adherence to accounting officer principles and observance of the principles detailed in HM Treasury’s Green Book. All decisions on the use of public resources must demonstrate value for money and ensure that each pound of public money delivers as fully as possible on the Welsh Government’s specific policy objectives.

Further details on specific efficiency savings could only be provided at disproportionate cost.
