What discussions has the Minister had with the licensed pest control sector about the potential unintended consequences of the ban on rodent glue traps as proposed in the Agriculture (Wales) Bill?

Answered by Minister for Rural Affairs and North Wales, and Trefnydd | Answered on 10/11/2022

The British Pest Control Association (BPCA) and the National Pest Technicians Association (NPTA) responded to a stakeholder consultation between November 2021 and January 2022 with their views about the consequences of a ban on glue traps.

The BPCA requested a follow up meeting which my officials, which was held in May, following which they provided additional evidence, including case studies, from their members in Wales.

A significant proportion of pest control is also undertaken by local authorities in Wales.

The Explanatory Memorandum to the Agriculture (Wales) Bill provides further information and a summary of the responses to the consultation can be found on the Bill’s webpage Agriculture (Wales) Bill 2022 | GOV.WALES
