Has the Welsh Government considered how the tourism tax will differently impact rural areas and urban areas?
A partial regulatory impact assessment for the visitor levy proposals has been published alongside the consultation which launched on 20 September and can be found via Partial regulatory impact assessment (PRIA) (gov.wales). This includes an initial assessment of some of the differentiated impacts for rural communities.
It is not possible for a complete impact assessment to be completed at such an early stage. This is because we have not reached a finalised policy and the consultation presents a range of choices. A more complete understanding of impacts depends on any finalised design and from wider contributions from respondents to the consultation. A full regulatory impact assessment would accompany any finalised proposals.
