What progress has the Welsh Government made on improving vascular services in Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board?

Answered by Minister for Health and Social Services | Answered on 22/11/2022

The health board is responsible for delivering and overseeing improvements to vascular services within North Wales. It is taking forward a significant programme of work as part of its vascular improvement programme, and progress is monitored regularly by Welsh Government officials via regular meetings with the health board Medical and Nurse Executive Directors.

The health board has established a vascular quality panel and operational planning group, implemented immediate make safe arrangements, made improvements in pathways, improved their clinical governance, supported multi-disciplinary team working and staff engagement.

We have also appointed Mr Kevin Conway, a consultant vascular surgeon, as the national clinical lead for vascular services. Mr Conway will take forward work with health boards to help drive out variation across Wales and improve outcomes for patients with vascular disease.
