What plans does the Welsh Government have to support people with early onset dementia?
In 2018 we published the Dementia Action Plan 2018-2022 which set out our vision for Wales to be a dementia friendly nation and outlined a number of actions to improve dementia services, including developing a team around the individual approach.
In the plan we recognised that younger people living with dementia often have different needs and were clear that these needed to be considered across the pathway. In September 2021, we published a companion document to the plan which outlined the areas of focus as we recognised the impact of the pandemic on people living with dementia. This was drafted by officials working closely with members of the Dementia Oversight and Implementation Group.
The Dementia Action Plan is also subject to external evaluation. This will inform the successor arrangements to the current plan, with the companion document acting as a bridging plan whilst the priorities for the successor arrangements are identified.
In April 2022, I provided a written statement on progress against the actions within the Dementia Action Plan 2018-22, which is referenced for further information.
