What assessment has the Minister made of the GCSE and vocational results in North Wales in 2022?

Answered by Minister for Education and the Welsh Language | Answered on 07/09/2022

I want to congratulate all learners on their achievements, I applaud the resilience of our young people and am delighted to see their achievements.

The levels of disruption faced by our learners has meant that this year does not mark a complete return to pre-pandemic arrangements but is a transition year, with results broadly reflecting a midway between 2021 outcomes and 2019 (the last year that formal examinations were sat).

Outcomes for this year cannot be compared to outcomes for previous years as the teaching and learning experience and method of awarding grades has been completely different.

Skills in priority sectors are vitally important in terms of meeting the range of needs of the Welsh economy, and now more than ever, and I want to congratulate learners on their vocational qualification results.

These results will provide a solid base to progress onwards in education, training or work and I wish all learners every success in their onward journey
