What criteria were used to determine the speed limit on the A40 between Raglan and Abergavenny?

Answered by Deputy Minister for Climate Change | Answered on 22/08/2022

The A40 between Raglan and Abergavenny is a dual carriageway standard. The national speed limit on dual carriageway standard roads is 70mph.

The Welsh Government routinely review the speed limits in the trunk road network in line with its guidance on setting local speed limits It has no plans no change the speed limit at the current time on this section of the A40.

The Welsh Government is currently updating the Setting Local Speed Limits in Wales guidance, to reflect its current policy including the national roll-out of 20mph speed limits and to meet the ambitions highlighted in Llwybr Newydd: the Wales Transport Strategy 2021. The new guidance will be published later this year.
