What support is being provided to people with diabetes to access podiatry services through the NHS in South Wales West?

Answered by Minister for Health and Social Services | Answered on 22/08/2022

In line with NICE guidelines, people with diabetes should receive an annual foot surveillance check as part of the recommended annual care processes provided by their primary care team. Patients may be referred to specialist services should they require further care and treatment. The Welsh Government has provided additional funding to support the recovery of chronic conditions management in primary care which fell during the pandemic.

Hywel Dda and Swansea Bay University Health Boards have arrangements in place for people to access emergency and routine podiatry services, with urgent cases being given clinical priority. There is also an emphasis on recovery of these services following the pandemic.
