What steps has the Commission taken to provide more opportunities for Welsh producers and businesses to provide food and drink to sell in the Senedd and Tŷ Hywel?

Y Llywydd on behalf of the Senedd Commission:

The Commission’s catering contract states that the Senedd wishes to enhance opportunities in the supply chain for SMEs and local and Welsh suppliers, maximising the amount of Welsh produce used in the provision of the catering service.  The usage of Welsh produce is monitored and reported as part of the Commission’s corporate KPI for the use of Welsh suppliers providing goods and services to the Senedd.

The catering contract is currently being retendered. The new contract will include a KPI to further maximise and increase the use of Welsh suppliers within the service.  Other initiatives for the new contract will include opportunities for Welsh suppliers to promote their services and produce in the public café and staff restaurant with promotional stands and materials.

As well as providing food and drink to the Senedd, the catering contract provides an opportunity for Welsh food producers and businesses to be used within other contractor outlets across the UK, providing additional market and sales opportunities for suppliers.
