Will the Minister publish Transport for Wales's range of projections for the expected overspend on the South Wales Metro?

Answered by Deputy Minister for Climate Change | Answered on 24/05/2022

The construction of the South Wales Metro, through the Core Valley Lines Transformation Programme, was delayed due to issues arising from Covid-19 and Brexit such as constraints on working practices and extended timeframes for delivery of materials. Taken alongside higher material costs post-Brexit and inflationary pressures this has led to increased costs to the programme.

The Welsh Government is working closely with TfW to consider options to minimise the increased costs whilst still delivering a modern, integrated transport system which transforms the way in which we travel.

I will provide the member with further information once these discussions have completed.
