What mental health support is available for (a) adults and (b) children and young people with cystic fibrosis (i) in general and (ii) who are receiving treatments such as Kaftrio?

The Welsh Health Specialised Services Committee (WHSSC) is responsible for commissioning cystic fibrosis (CF) care in Wales, with Cardiff and Vale University Health Board providing a service for patients in mid and south Wales. Cystic fibrosis patients in north Wales access services in England.

All patients are regularly offered psychosocial support whilst on Kaftrio or any other CTR modulator therapy. At every clinic visit all patients have the opportunity to access psychosocial support either from the psychology team, social worker or youth worker.

In addition, mental health services are available for all who meet the threshold to benefit from this level of care. There is also a range of support that is open access and does not need a referral, including online CBT and CALL, a 24/7 mental health advice line.
