Administrative data for GPs recording of patient’s conditions for diagnoses of both adults and children for fetal alcohol spectrum disorders can be attained from the SAIL databank via Digital Health and Care Wales. The quality of this data is dependent on GPs recording when patients enter the system, and it is not regularly utilised.
More readily available data contained with the Patient Episode Database for Wales (PEDW) data can provide data on the number of admissions into secondary care, for the clinical code ‘Fetal alcohol syndrome (dysmorphic)’.
