What assessment has the Minister made of the Irish Government’s scheme to fast-track the registration of Ukrainian teachers so they can begin teaching as soon as possible?

Answered by Minister for Education and the Welsh Language | Answered on 31/03/2022

We have previously introduced legislation that allows the Education Workforce Council (EWC) to assess applications for registration in Wales from all countries in the world and this has been in force since 1 January 2021.

For any Ukrainian refugee that wishes to apply to register as a teacher in Wales EWC will assess the available information on their qualifications status on a case by case basis.

To apply to be registered all applicants are also required to submit a declaration as to their fitness to practice and as it will be more difficult to confirm the details with the Ukrainian police services then EWC will also assess these on a case by case basis.

All cases will be addressed sympathetically and as quickly as possible.
