Following the publication of the alcohol-related brain damage treatment framework, how is the Welsh Government monitoring the actions of Welsh health boards to ensure they are, as required in the treatment framework, providing an appropriate diagnosis and treatment pathway, including access to residential rehabilitation, in their geographical area of responsibility?
My officials are currently working with Health Boards and Area Planning Boards to take forward the recommendations of the recently published Framework in partnership with a range of stakeholders. Officials will monitor the progress of these recommendations as they are implemented.
Our initial focus will be taking forward work around the “education, training and awareness” of alcohol-related brain damage as is set out in the first theme of recommendations within the Framework.
In addition, we expect Health Boards to engage with Area Planning Boards to ensure they provide appropriate services for those in need of alcohol-related brain damage support. Officials have noted this as part of the indicative funding allocation letter sent to Area Planning Boards for 2022-23 and our expectation is that they work with Health Boards to support this work.
