What assessment has the Welsh Government undertaken to monitor the success of the voluntary Code of Practice on improving the welfare of racing greyhounds?

Answered by Minister for Rural Affairs and North Wales, and Trefnydd | Answered on 03/02/2022

In 2019 funding was secured via the Welsh Government/Local Authority Partnership Delivery Plan to enable Caerphilly County Borough Council to carry out welfare inspections at the Valley Greyhound Stadium during the evening / weekend races. The objective was to facilitate inspections under the Animal Welfare Act 2006 and the Voluntary Code of Practice for the Welfare of Racing Greyhounds (Wales).   This work was delayed due to Covid. Inspections are now underway and once completed, will provide useful data with which to monitor the success of the Voluntary Code of Practice on improving the welfare of greyhounds.
