What action will the Welsh Government take to address the increasing number of staff declaring that they intend to leave the NHS due to overwork and stress as a result of the pandemic?

Answered by Minister for Health and Social Services | Answered on 07/02/2022

The Welsh Government is incredibly grateful to staff and volunteers across health and social care who have worked tirelessly throughout the pandemic.

The Welsh Government and NHS Wales bodies are closely monitoring whether staff are leaving the NHS due to pressures brought on by the pandemic. At the same time we are supporting retention through a range of policies to enhance engagement and wellbeing to enable staff to remain in work during and after the pandemic.

Targeted retention initiatives are also being implemented as part of the Health Education and Improvement Wales and Social Care Wales 10-year workforce strategy.

NHS Wales currently employs historically high numbers of staff.
