What consideration has the Minister given to reducing, or re-evaluating the council tax bands of residents in high-rise buildings affected by fire safety issues due to the impact on the value of these properties?

Local authorities have discretionary powers which allow them to reduce council tax bills in certain circumstances.  The application of council tax exemptions and discounts to individual properties is a matter for each local authority to determine.  Eligibility for an exemption or discount is determined by the circumstances of each case.

The Valuation Office Agency (VOA) compiles the valuation lists used for council tax purposes and determines the valuation band into which each dwelling falls.  Council tax payers can challenge their valuation in certain circumstances by contacting the VOA.  A free appeals service is provided by the Valuation Tribunal for Wales.
