Will the Minister provide evidence that vaccine passports work in meeting their objectives?

Answered by Minister for Health and Social Services | Answered on 24/01/2022

The Covid Pass is part of a series of measures to mitigate the impact of Covid on our communities. The Welsh Government continue to keep the scope of the Covid Pass under review as part of the 21 day review process. Evidence from the Technical Advisory Cell is published on the Welsh Government’s website and the latest advice can be found here: https://gov.wales/advice-technical-advisory-cell-and-chief-scientific-advisor-health-21-day-review-13-january-2022

A recent review of the use of vaccine certification in six European countries published in The Lancet found they led to increased vaccinations 20 days before implementation in anticipation, with a lasting effect up to 40 days afterwards. The study is available at: https://www.thelancet.com/journals/lanpub/article/PIIS2468-2667(21)00273-5/fulltext

The Welsh Government continues to have regular engagement with the sectors required to operate the Covid Pass and we continue to support businesses that are required by law to ask for a Covid pass with a range of advice and guidance.
